We are truly honored to have been selected for the launch team of Katie J. Trent's latest book, A Merry and Bright Adventure: A Christmas Devotional for Family, Faith, Food, and Fun. Christmas is such a special time and its our favorite season as a family. In our house, the decorations go up on November 1st and stay up until...well...usually February. Don't judge us. Winter can be so gray and cold. We need the glow of warm twinkle lights inside the house. It's a necessity.

Christmas is also one of our busiest times of the year. Between holiday activities and Nutcracker performances, we embody busyness. As the years pass and that seems to only increase I've been searching for a devotional to do during Advent season that will keep us centered on Christ.

That's exactly what Katie provides in this Advent devotional. The book includes readings for 25 days leading up to the celebration of the birth of Christ. Those days are separated into four sections that cover the weeks of Advent--Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. There is a traditional devotion to read as a family every day, but also more to bring you together for the season. The devotions include discussion questions to engage each member and prayers to offer up as a family.

This truly is a family Adventure because it doesn't stop with reading together. Each day includes activities, games, and recipes that you can enjoy as a family while being pointed back to the hope of the season. Some of the recipes included are Angel Food Cake French Toast, Cranberry Christmas Carol Cake, Starry Grilled Cheese, Picasso Puzzle Pancakes, and so many more. Lucy and I tested out the Angel Food Cake French Toast recipe and had a blast doing it together. We're both looking forward to going through the full devotional this season and trying out more of these.

One of my favorite resources in this book that was brilliant of Katie to include is a homeschool guide. If you homeschool your family this provides a way to incorporate A Merry and Bright Adventure into your lesson plans for any subject. I love getting to bring in real-life practical skills in our homeschool days. Hands-on approaches to core subjects like Math, Science, and English help create context for kids. This book is a perfect addition to your December school rotation.

I am so excited about what Katie has created with this book. And I want to share it with you guys! I'm giving away a brand new copy of A Merry and Bright Adventure to a randomly selected winner. You can enter on our Youtube video with the recipe test.
